The Blessing of the Mountain Bikes
It is custom for the Balinese Hindu people to bless or purify newly
purchased items or goods in their life so that the item will have
the spirit to make it work the way it is suppose to. The blessing
also gives the item reliability and safety in use. The priest consults
the Balinese calendar to decide the best day to conduct the blessing
ceremony, the priest will also advise on what offerings should be
made for the ceremony. After getting all of the information from
the priest the offerings are made at home and holy water collected
for the purification of the bikes. On the day of the blessing the
priest comes to the home to conduct the ceremony, the blessing ceremony
is preceded by a ceremony at the family temple to express the gratefulness
and blissfulness to the god and the holy ancestors for being able
to purchase the items. Prays are offered that the newly purchased
items we be reliable and work well to help in daily life. We get
things in life because of hard work and without this blessing they
may not be there .It is very important to be grateful for what we
gain in life, in the Balinese Hindu way of life such ceremonies
show thanks to the god .
Besides blessing ceremonies for newly purchased items, Balinese
Hindus also a have a ceremony for items like working tools that
are made from metal and iron, also vehicles and electronic equipment
etc. The ceremony takes place every 210 days or six months according
to the Balinese calendar it is called Tumpek Landep. Lots of beautiful
offerings made from flowers, woven young coconut leaf, ceremonial
cakes as well as traditionally prepared meat. The ceremony to bless
the items is to thank them for being useful and helpful in life.
Prays are made to the god Pasupati so that the items remain reliable,
well functioning and having spirit.
