Secret Garden

Address: Poppies Lane 1 in Kuta

The Secret Garden bar and café is located in Poppies Lane 1 in Kuta. There is also the Secret Garden hotel just behind the bar and café. We visited the hotel to check out the facilities in case we needed a centrally located hotel for a future visit to Bali. The hotel is very nice with the rooms built around a central a swimming pool. The rooms are spacious, very clean and have hot water, television, refrigerator and air conditioning, amazing value when they start at only RP180,000 per night for a standard room.

Now on to the bar and café.The setting is great, right in the heart of the action, but quiet and well set out. You have a choice of dining inside the café or do as we did and sit outside under the umbrellas and enjoy the cool breeze in the semi enclosed court yard area. The courtyard is surrounded by small shops and market stalls so you can even shop while you wait for your meal.

The menu is vast and they have special theme nights such as “Curry and Chocolate nights” featuring Indian Vindaloo curry Rp. 35,000 followed by homemade death by chocolate dessert Rp. 15,000. The daily menu included such unusual things as “Alvin’s Cornish pasties
Large steak Rp 30,000
Medium Rp 25,000
Vegetarian Rp 20,000

Mixed grill with steak, pork, chicken sausages, gravy and mashed potato all for Rp. 60,000. Indonesian and Chinese dishes, pizzas and would you believe meat pie, chips and gravy Rp 30,000.
One of the best surprises was the fact that you could order your sandwiches with WHOLEMEAL bread, such a rarity in Bali. I ordered the Ham, Cheese, tomato toasted sandwich with chips YUM! A club sandwich was Rp 35,000 and jaffles Rp 12,000-17,000 ( you can even order your jaffle with Heinz baked beans in ) there is also a good range of Baguettes which looked delicious and Spring rolls Rp 13,000 Shrimp cocktail Rp 15,000 soups around Rp 10,000 and salads Rp 12,000 to 22,000.

The secret garden must be one of the most popular breakfast venues in Kuta. They offer an all day breakfast with sausages, 2 eggs, bacon, fried bread, tomatoes, mushrooms toast, tea or coffee and juice for only Rp 36,000.

Drinks are also excellent value with Small Bintang Rp 6,000 Large Rp 9,000. Hattens wine by the glass Rp 11,000, Lindermans Australian wine Rp 15,000 per glass and only Rp 24,000 for a double shot of spirits . A full choice of teas coffees milk shakes and juice. Another added bonus was spotless clean toilets !!! They also show movies and sporting events on a big screen if you need some entertainment.

All in all a great find for food, drinks and accommodation in a great location
